I don’t know about you but my family definitely needs something to ease the pains of winter months, burns, scratches, owies and of course, eczema. The salve we use for everything skin related is FULL of healing essential oils, organic raw shea butter, beeswax (SEE NOTES), organic cold pressed virgin coconut oil, organic neem oil, and when I have it I use organic olive oil infused with organic calendula flowers. It feels and smells ahhhhmazing! I even put it on my lips and face! Below I will go in depth about each part and how they help our skin to heal.
Raw shea Butter:
Shea butter is a cream colored fatty substance taken from the nuts of the shea tree from West Africa. 100% pure, unrefined, raw shea butter aids in a ton of skin conditions such as blemishes, wrinkles, muscle fatigue, dermatitis. The healing properties reduce the appearance of scars as well. So if you have a loved one with eczema, this should assist a bit in scarring from itching and open wounds.
Raw shea butter is extremely moisturizing and hydrating! When applied to the skin, it provides immediate relief and softness .It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor promoting compounds. It is also listed as safe to consume by the FDA, so putting it on our lips as a moisturizer is a great way to sooth those chapped lips!
Organic Cold Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil:
There are way too many ways to count how amazing coconut oil is. We go through a gigantic tub of it in about 2 weeks. It has anti-inflammatory properties that help any skin condition calm down. It helps sooth inflamed, red, dry, cracked skin with all the medium chain triglycerides. This saturated fat is amazing for hydrating the skin. It also has vitamin E and as we know this is vital for skin health.
Coconut oil is rich in a lot of proteins. These proteins keep our skin healthy, both internally and externally. The proteins also contribute to cellular health and tissue repair. For any damaged cells in or on the skin, a healthy of flow of proteins guarantees their replacement. We also use coconut oil in our everyday cooking so ingesting it also helps with this regeneration of tissues!
Organic Cacao Butter:
Cacao butter is a wonderful, natural moisturizer that melts just above room temperature. It is high in fatty acids which penetrates the skin for deep hydration. Weather, hormones, and seasons of life all impact the health of our skin. It is a gentle and non-toxic option to help reverse the numerous signs of life. Cacao butter is rich in antioxidants including oleic acid, palmitic acid, and stearic acid. These fatty acids actually are a benefit to your skin, because they will provide a layer of protection from skin stressors and free radicals. These antioxidants also work to lighten age spots, to even skin tone, and to reduce scars.
Organic Olive Oil Infused with Calendula Flowers:
Calendula is a flower part of the marigold family. Marigold was considered by ancient Egyptians to have rejuvenating properties. It has amazing anti-inflammatory properties which makes it perfect for any skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, wounds, acne, ulcers, or rashes. It really helps sooth itchy, red, inflamed skin! It is antiseptic and antimicrobial helping heal any cuts or open wounds. It is also a really great moisturizer for severely dry, chapped skin and brings a lot of relief. This is a definite gem in my home!
The essential oils I add into the salve greatly depends on what I have available at the time. Some of the ones often used are: Tea Tree, Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, German Chamomile, Melrose, Cedarwood, Oregano, Geranium, Peace & Calming, Frankincense, Lemongrass and Basil. Click HERE to find out more information on these oils! If you would like to know more information on how these preferred oils differ from other companies, go HERE and read about the incredible way they create the oils!
I use small glass jars and create small batches at at time. If a batch is not prepared, I am most likely waiting for essential oils or the calendula flowers are still infusing and that could take up to 6 weeks. If you need one asap and the calendula is not prepared I will make it without that part and just add in more coconut oil with extra love of essential oils. I want to help you as best as I can! Shoot me an email if you are concerned.
This is made with love in small batches and sometimes it will take a some time, up to 2 weeks possibly. Your patience is greatly appreciated!
