Yay summer time! Sun, water, late nights and… BUGS! If you are like me and my boys, we don’t like bugs much! Those bites hurt! I don’t know about you but I don’t buy conventional bug spray and here’s why. If you go download this app called Think Dirty, it will show you a lot of home and beauty product, their ingredients and rate them accordingly. 1 being safest, 10 being dangerous! SO, a lot of bug sprays actually have pretty toxic ingredients and one of the top selling brands has a rating of a 9! So what’s in it? I’ll tell you.
1. FRAGRANCE:  a known hormon disruptor & allergy causing ingredient.
2. DEET: an ingredient to repell bugs BUT it is not only a skin irritant, it is also potentially toxic to our organs.
3. ETHYL ALCOHOL: not toxic but if you have sensitive skin it could be irritating.
4. N DIETHYL TOLUAMIDE: skin, eyes and lung irritant and could be toxic to organs.
For this reason I make my own! No need to add in all the extra harmful effects when you don’t have to. I use filtered water, witch hazel and a few essential oils. Leaves you smelling yummy and keeps those bugs away!

DIY Bug Spray
~ 10 drops Lavender
~ 10 drops Lemongrass
~ 10 drops Tea Tree
~ 5 drops Purification
~ 5 drops Peppermint
I add all the oils to a 4 oz glass spray bottle. Add in 1 oz witch hazel and fill the rest with filtered or distilled water. Put the top on, shake it and use!
